Gwalior Conducts Mock Drill to Test Emergency Response Readiness

Gwalior, 7 May 2025Gwalior was among the key cities in Madhya Pradesh where a large-scale mock drill was carried out on Tuesday to assess the city’s preparedness in the event of a major emergency or air raid.

The drill, held under the guidance of the Ministry of Home Affairs, was part of a coordinated national exercise taking place in 244 districts, including other major cities like Bhopal, Indore, Jabalpur, Katni, and Ujjain. The exercise began at 4:00 PM with the sounding of sirens across Gwalior, followed by a simulated blackout and emergency response activities.

Government officials, civil defence teams, police, and healthcare workers took part in the drill. Authorities simulated various emergency scenarios such as evacuation, search and rescue, and crowd control. The purpose was to test how quickly and effectively systems and personnel could respond during a real crisis.

Residents had been informed in advance to avoid panic, and many local citizens cooperated with the drill. Officials will now assess the drill’s outcome and identify areas where improvements are needed.

The mock drill, named "Operation Abhyas," reflects the government's focus on strengthening disaster and conflict readiness in light of national security concerns.
