Gwalior, 22 May 2025 – A tragic incident occurred near the Birla Nagar railway crossing in Gwalior on Wednesday, when two women were hit by the Delhi-bound Shatabdi Express. One woman lost her life on the spot, while the other sustained severe injuries to her leg.
According to police officials, the women were reportedly crossing the railway tracks when the Shatabdi Express, travelling at high speed, struck them. The deceased has been identified as a woman in her mid-40s. The injured woman, believed to be in her 30s, was rushed to a nearby hospital where she is undergoing treatment.
Eyewitnesses claim the train’s sudden appearance gave the women no time to react. Authorities are investigating whether the women were unaware of the approaching train or if there were any safety lapses in the area.
Local residents expressed concern about the lack of proper barriers and signage near the crossing, saying such accidents could be prevented with better safety measures.
Railway and police officials are currently reviewing the CCTV footage and statements from bystanders to determine the exact sequence of events. The identity of the victims is being confirmed, and their families are being notified.
The incident has once again raised questions about pedestrian safety around railway tracks and the need for increased awareness and caution in high-risk zones.
